Continuous reductions with NaBH4 in Serial Micro Batch Reactors: a new paradigm for using solid reagents in flow chemistry

Yi-Hsuan Tsai

Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces

The development and application of continuous flow chemistry methods for organic synthesis has experienced dramatic growth in the last decades, emerging as a powerful tool to improve efficiency of synthetic processes through automation and optimization. One main restriction limiting their general applicability is related to the use of solid reagents, associated with the difficulty in feeding a solid into a flow system. Recently, the proof of concept of a new technique called Serial Micro-Batch Reactors was reported. In this project, we wish to explore this exciting approach in reduction reactions with NaBH4, among the most important reactions in organic synthesis.
